Still Life

Process

For my Still Life project, I randomly found some objects that fits together that are not my property. I borrowed these and took them home so I could take photographs and control my own work space. For preparation, I used a wooden table and set it up so I had to use my own phone for lighting. Due to not being in a studio or have full equipment, I had to do with using my own light from lamps and my mobile phone. I then set the camera up using ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed. I used the format RAW to edit them and convert them in Lightroom.

Artist Research

Edward Weston – This artist was a well known american photographer who took photographs transforming landscapes, portraits and still life objects. His first ever photograph published was in the Camera and Darkroom magazine in 1920. He has had over 40 years experience in the photography industry. He wanted to be a photographer from an early age. The images below are three examples of his work.

My Final Image

IMG_1179

This is my chosen final image. With my images, I played around with the lighting to see what effect it could show. I am happy with the final result. It shows the light reflection from the magnifying glass and the shadow from the jar. If I was to do this project again, I possibly would use more lighting so it wouldn’t be as dark. I would also focus on the jar a bit more to give it more definition.

My Other Images

These images I am happy with also, but I felt like these images were too dark. Compared to Irving Penn, the artist used a similar style to what I wanted to create. I tried to create a story by using simple objects that are often used in general life such as the ruler and magnifying glass. With these images, I would add more lighting especially on the last three images.
