Week 2 – Image Analysis

The image looks vintage and a lower quality of what we have today in 1080p, 4k. From observing the scene, I think the photo was taken between 1990’s/2000’s. My reasons are that the image looks vintage and old. The colours and textures are old fashioned. There is a can of The Somerset Cider on the side which was manufactured from 1989.

In my opinion, I think the photo was taken in the UK. One of my reasons is on the wall you can see a performing arts mask with old fashioned photographs which leads to suggest this. There is a vintage cup on the side near the cider, also suggesting that the image is from the UK, the cup near the cider was in fashion and popular around 1990’s and 2000’s.

The photograph is quite dark. It has a patch of light coming through the window on the door. It is very old fashioned and the wallpaper look outdated. The man looks like he is probably drunk and the cat is suddenly flying above him. The detail of around the characters is realistic apart from the cat, but the author wanted to do something different by the cat flying above his head. There is a lot of space in the photograph which is filled with detail that makes it look like a home. You can see a lot of detail in the photo as it was taken in sharp focus. This allows all detail about the scene visible for the audience to study what the character likes and how he lives.

The man is obviously not engaging with the camera as he is looking like he is passing out due to drinking alcohol. However, the cat is looking directly at the camera from his/her right eye.

The author may have told the character to make it as creative as possible, making the audience of the photo think and observe what is happening. The photographer probably wanted to capture something new that has not been done before.

The photographer wants to bring the comical factor to the image and bring his creativity into practice. The creator wanted to create an image to make the viewer think and spend time looking at the image, allowing the audience to think, observing the environment of the scene and the way the characters and animals are portrayed.
